IoT MVP Development

IoT MVP development from Cortex Technologies takes your connected product from an idea or a proof of concept to a working MVP that real users can test. We build the firmware, connectivity, app and backend together, on off-the-shelf dev boards first, so you learn what works before committing to hardware.

What we build.

Feasibility study

Validation of the power budget, radio range, sensors and cost before any build starts, so the MVP is aimed at the right hardware.

Dev board prototype

A working device on off-the-shelf boards and sensors, ready for your first users to try.

Firmware and drivers

Embedded firmware on FreeRTOS or Linux, with drivers for your sensors, actuators and peripherals.

Connectivity

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, LoRaWAN or cellular, chosen for your range, power and data needs, with provisioning on first boot.

App and dashboard

A mobile app or web dashboard that shows users their data and lets them control the device.

Over-the-air updates

Firmware updates with rollback, so test units get fixes and new features without being collected.

What does an IoT MVP include?

Everything a user needs to try the product for real:

  • The device: built on off-the-shelf dev boards and sensors
  • Firmware that reads the sensors and runs on battery or mains
  • Connectivity to a phone or the cloud
  • An app or dashboard where users see their data
  • A backend in Django or FastAPI, in Docker on infrastructure you own

Why build on dev boards first?

Changes are cheap on a dev board and expensive on a custom PCB. We prove the power budget, range and sensors on stock hardware, so whoever designs your production board starts from what actually worked. For ESP32 products, see our ESP32 IoT development company page.

What do you hand over at the end?

A working MVP, plus everything needed to build on it: the firmware, app and backend source, the wiring and parts list, and notes on what we tested. Your team, or a manufacturer, can take it from there to production.

Questions clients ask.

How much does IoT MVP development cost?

It depends on what already exists: an idea, a breadboard prototype, or existing firmware. We start with a feasibility study, then quote the build. The first consultation is free.

How long does it take to get a working prototype?

A simple proof of concept on a breadboard takes about a week, as long as the components are in stock. A full MVP with an app and backend takes longer; we give you a timeline after the feasibility study.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes. Most of our client work is under NDA, and we're happy to sign yours before you share any details.

Who owns the firmware and source code?

You do. The firmware, app, backend code and repositories are handed over to you once the work is complete.

Do you work with teams in the US and EU?

Yes. We're based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and work remotely with teams worldwide. You talk directly to the engineer doing the work, and we overlap with your working hours.

The R&D Lifecycle

01

Feasibility Study

We analyze the physical constraints, such as power budget, connectivity range, environment and regulatory requirements, and report on whether the idea is feasible.

02

Rapid MVP and Bench Testing

We use off-the-shelf components (Raspberry Pi, Jetson, ESP32, STM32) so as to validate Firmware, Software and AI models before committing to custom hardware.

03

Industrialization and DFM

This part is where we optimize for production. Custom drivers, latency reduction, model quantization, custom PCB integration, and firmware hardening.

04

Deployment

Scaling the fleet with OTA update infrastructure, telemetry pipelines, and cloud dashboard setup for monitoring thousands of devices. This means, you don't have to worry once your device ships.
